For Budget-Conscious Retirees
The most affordable US cities to retire on a budget.
Every city in our database whose all-in monthly budget starts under about $5,500 — listed alphabetically, not ranked. We add new cities and profiles regularly.
Where a fixed retirement income stretches furthest — ranked by real, all-in monthly cost of living, not just cheap home prices.
How this list was built
▾
Every city is scored across all ten RetireMeHere dimensions, but this list is organized by the one fixed-income retirees feel first: total monthly cost of living. Each city's Monthly Estimate is a realistic all-in budget for a retired couple — housing, healthcare, utilities, food, and everyday spending — not a bare-bones survival figure. Housing is modeled on a mortgaged buyer, so a city's median home price flows directly into its monthly number. This page is the Most Affordable band: every city whose all-in monthly estimate starts under about $5,500, the lowest cost of living in our database. Cities are listed alphabetically, not ranked. Cities marked “Coming soon” clear the same affordability bar but don't have a full profile published yet — they'll become clickable as we add them. Placement follows the data, not editorial preference.
